40 years' experience in plastics

SIMONA AG is recognised as one of the world's leading manufacturers of semi-finished thermoplastics. Drawing on more than 40 years of experience in formulation, production and machining, we have established the credentials and unrivalled expertise of high-calibre specialists. This also applies to the full range of SIMONA products and consulting services associated with plastics deployed in explosive atmospheres.

Tanks, piping systems, transport and conveyor equipment, machine and plant components – they are frequently used in areas with a high risk of explosion. Both solid objects and fluids can become electrostatically charged as a result of friction. The sparks generated during discharge are capable of igniting explosive materials, irrespective of whether they are solid, liquid or gaseous. Electrically conductive plastics are designed to prevent electrostatic charging. At the same time, they offer outstanding chemical and abrasion resistance. Owing to their processing versatility, electrically conductive plastics provide the basis for cost-effective solutions of an exceptionally high standard, e.g. within the following areas of application:

  • Tanks, containers and linings for combustible materials and substances
  • Piping systems for flammable liquids, solvents and vapours as well as mixtures thereof
  • Piping systems for flammable gases
  • Gas collector systems for landfill applications
  • Tanks, containers and machine components in explosion-protected rooms
  • Tank liners for the storage and filling of powder-based materials
  • Laboratory and smoke outlet ducts for chemical companies
  • Product packaging and transport pallets
  • Conveyor systems and slide rails

Electrically conductive plastics developed by SIMONA AG, all of which have a volume resistance of < 106 ohm, can be used in devices and protection systems that are subject to ATEX Directive 94/9/EC, provided they are appropriately earthed. The material can be certified by means of an acceptance test certificate, 3.1, and a technical data sheet can be provided.

In addition to providing expert advice on electrically conductive semi-finished plastics, we operate a comprehensive consulting service for all issues relating to the use of SIMONA products. Our Applications Technology Department offers on-site expertise, as well as organising customer training seminars at SIMONA's Plastics Academy and assisting with the implementation of ATEX-related measures.

SIMONA is the only manufacturer of semi-finished plastics to have established a training programme for electrically conductive plastics. The specialist courses are designed to provide an in-depth understanding of material specifications and properties, as well as focusing on the specific characteristic of plastics welding, product dimensions, chemical resistance and behaviour in various temperature ranges. Upon successful completion of the practical exercises at the end of the course, participants receive a certificate confirming their expertise as processors of electrically conductive plastics.

For your safety as well as the safety of your staff and your company.
