SIMONA® Liner Materials
Superior safety for linings and composite construction
SIMONA offers a wide range of materials for lining the interior of steel tanks as well as for GRP composite structures. The various adhesion promoters create an optimal physical bridge between the lining and the base material to be protected against corrosion. SIMONA® liner materials thus provide a high level of safety and can be used for many applications – even at underpressure.
Excerpt from the product range of SIMONA® liner materials:
(1) SIMONA® PP-H AlphaPlus®-SK
- Alpha-nucleated polypropylene homopolymer (PP-H AlphaPlus®): reduced permeation through the liner owing to α-crystalline modification of the homopolymer liner component (PP-H)
- Three-dimensionally good stretchability of the polyester backing (SK) in the hot forming process
- At elevated temperature, highly diffusive species, particularly water (vapor), low molecular weight acids and bases, may influence the long term performance of the adhesion promoter
- Recommended maximum continuous service temperature: 80°C
(2) SIMONA® PVDF-GK
- Higher service temperature (compared to polyester backing)
- Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF): excellent chemical resistance to a large number of aqueous and organic media (with the exception of highly alkaline media)
- Combination with the three-dimensionally stretchable glass backing (GK) allows shaping for conventional requirements - At elevated temperature, highly diffusive species, particularly low molecular weight acids and bases, may influence the long term performance of the adhesion promoter
- Adhesion promoter is not recommended for environment containing hydrogen fluoride (HF) or its derivatives
- Recommended maximum continuous service temperature: 100°C
(3) SIMONA® ECTFE-AK
- Ethylene chlorotrifluoroethylene (ECTFE): in some cases, much lower diffusion sensitivity to many aqueous and organic media (in comparison with other liner materials)
- Combination with the three-dimensionally good stretchable aramide backing (AK) allows many different types of shaping, e. g. manufacture of dished boiler ends
- At elevated temperature, highly diffusive species, particularly low molecular weight acids, may influence the long term performance of the adhesion promoter
- Recommended maximum continuous service temperature: 110°C
(4) SIMONA® PP-C-PK
- Identical chemical resistance of the liner component polypropylene copolymer (PP-C) and the adhesion promoter, a polypropylene backing (PK), makes it possible to prolong service of the composite system in the case of permeating media
- Excellent three-dimensional stretchability in the hot forming / thermoforming process
- Removal of backing (PK) prior to welding procedures not mandatory
- Recommended maximum continuous service temperature: 90°C
(5) SIMONA® PVDF-CV
- Possibility of direct lamination of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) pipes, which are low-stress due to thermal after-treatment
- Electrically conductive version SIMONA® PVDF-EL-CV may be considered for solvent-based processes
- The chemically pretreated surface (CV) is resistant to hydrolysis and many low molecular acids and alkalis
- Removal of the CV layer is not mandatory
- The longer diffusion distance generally means an extended service life for the composite system (compared to glass backing)
- Recommended maximum continuous service temperature: 90°C
