Revenue and sales volume up in first half

Kirn, 30 July 2025. In the first half of 2025, the SIMONA Group generated revenue totaling €302.0 million, up 1.3 % on the prior-year period (€298.0 million). The Group's sales volume increased by 3% compared to the same period last year. Growth in the first six months was driven solely by the first quarter, during which revenue expanded by 4.3% to €152.2 million (previous year: €145.9 million). In the second quarter, revenue fell slightly from €152.1 million to €149.8 million (-1.5%), partly due to the global tariff dispute. In the first half of 2025, Group earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) declined to €17.2 million (previous year: €21.0 million). The EBIT margin for the period under review was 5.7% (previous year: 7.1%). The decline is attributable almost exclusively to currency effects, primarily due to unrealized exchange rate losses relating to China. Despite the uncertainties emanating from the economic arena and an EBIT margin below target in the first half of the year, SIMONA is maintaining its guidance of Group revenue of €610 to 620 million and a Group EBIT margin of 6 to 8% for the 2025 financial year.

The sales regions developed along different lines in the first half of the year. Revenue in the EMEA region increased by 6.9%, up from €180.9 million in the previous year to €193.3 million. The positive performance is due to a significant increase in revenue and sales volumes in the Infrastructure business line and a marked upturn in the Group's aquaculture business. In particular, the Infrastructure business line succeeded in securing contracts for projects in the market for ducting used to protect power cable routes. Revenue generated in the Americas fell by 6.0% from €91.4 million in the previous year to €85.9 million. This was attributable to persistently sluggish demand in the Mobility and Advertising & Building business lines as well as in the area of leisure applications. In the Asia-Pacific region, revenue fell from €25.7 million in the previous year to €22.7 million. This was due to weak demand relating to photovoltaics and the chemical industry, while semicon applications generated growth in the reporting period.

The business lines took divergent routes in the first six months of 2025. Revenue in the Industry business line was down on the previous year at €106.7 million (previous year: €109.9 million; -2.9%); the same applied to the Advertising & Building business line at €37.8 million (previous year: €45.9 million; -17.6%) and the Mobility business line at €35.4 million (previous year: € 39.0 million; -9.2%).  By contrast, the Infrastructure business line saw revenue grow significantly to €65.1 million (previous year: €54.2 million; +20.1%). Revenue from other application areas and retail also increased markedly to €57.0 million (previous year: €49.0 million; +16.3%).

In the first half of 2025, Group earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) declined from €21.0 million a year ago to €17.2 million. Thus, the EBIT margin in the period under review was 5.7% (previous year: 7.1%). EBITDA decreased from €32.9 million to €30.1 million. The EBITDA margin fell from 11.1% in the previous year to 10.0%. The trajectory of earnings was influenced by the depreciation of the renminbi against the euro and thus by exchange rate losses, most of which are unrealized. 

"In an environment characterized by a high degree of uncertainty in the wake of the US administration's tariff announcements and geopolitical conflicts, we succeeded in expanding both revenue and sales volume in the first six months. This is a testament above all to growth in infrastructure applications in EMEA. Here we were able to win projects focusing on the protection of cables used in the field of power transmission, and we have now positioned ourselves as a technology leader and innovator in this market with our SimoClearWeld welding technology. The recent acquisition of the two Dutch companies Electroplast and Dutchclamp – whose figures are not yet included in the financial results for the first half of the year – will reinforce our market position and profitability in EMEA. We are not satisfied with our earnings performance in the first six months. Currency-related factors and higher operating costs had a detrimental effect. We are nevertheless confident for the year as a whole and are standing by our guidance of an EBIT margin of 6 to 8%. Our ability to achieve this goal will depend to some extent on the direction taken by the US dollar and the Chinese renminbi. We continue to expect Group revenue for the year to be in the range of €610 to 620 million," says Matthias Schönberg, CEO of SIMONA AG.
